Note: This kit has been completely re-designed for 2025 to bring the construction and standard of detail in line with that seen on our Ffestiniog Railway Carriage Kits. The original style kit is still available to order upon request, and the new style ‘Plate Frame Bogies’ with 3D printed detail overlays are available to purchase separately for those wishing to partially upgrade existing kits; details at the bottom of the page.

Version A (Illustrated). S-15 Third Class Corridor Carriage

Version B (Not Illustrated). First / Third Class Composite Corridor Carriage

These vehicles were rebuilt from S-5 carriages, in order to provide sanatory facilities for the travelling public. To this end they were lengthened and a W/C compartment inserted in the middle; internal doors were installed to provide corridor access from all compartments.

Although prototypical for SAR, this vehicle would look at home on most 16mm railways and its loading gauge would complement many of the medium and larger sized generic live-steam locomotives currently on the market.

Over their working lives these vehicles have seen several different liveries, various alterations to their match boarding and/or panelling and other small detail difference. If you are interested in a specific member of the class at a particular time please get in contact and within reason will be happy to make non-structural alterations.

-16mm Scale Laser Cut Kit available in MDF or Plywood

– Proven, hidden slot and tabs construction for easy and accurate assembly

– Enhanced external matchboard, panelling and vent detail

– Fully fitted interior, with panelling now provided in full relief where appropriate along with, overhead luggage racks and internal door furniture.

– Now includes dummy brake detail, with 3D printed brake cylinder, vacuum reservoir, handbrake ‘wheels’ and ‘solid’ vacuum pipes.

– Correct pattern, 3D printed grab rails and door handles now included as standard along with brass coloured copper wire to represent door hinges and SLR Models 3D printed door locks.

– 3D printed steps for one end supplied as standard along with brass coloured copper wire to form the curved handrail.

– Individual glazing panels, complete with droplights frames and beading modelled in full relief

– Roof mounted water tank now supplied as a one piece 3D print for simplified installation.

– Includes the 2025 ‘SAR’ Plate Frame Bogies’ in either MDF or Plywood with 3D printed detail overlays and supplied complete with steel wheelsets in either 32 or 45mm to suit your preference as well as suitable bearings.

Markings

Most of the vehicles represented in the range were built in significant quantities. As such no lettering or numbering is provided as it would be impractical to include so many numbering options. However, ‘Endon Valley Decals’ produce appropriate decals and these can be customised to suit your requirements.

2025 SAR Plate Frame Bogie Upgrade Kit for CGR/SAR Carriage Kits

The following kit of parts is available to order on our usual 28-day lead time and can be easily fitted to the original kit to bring it nearer to the appearance of the updated version.

-2025 updated SAR ‘Plate Frame’ Bogie Frames (Pair) in Plywood or MDF with 3D printed overlays as well as 8 off 2mm Journal Bearings. Wheels are not supplied; it is envisaged you would use with wheelsets originally supplied.
