Ffestiniog Railway Carriage 23

Produced in collaboration with William Curry,  this laser cut kit represents Ffestiniog Railway ‘Carriage 23’, which was originally built by Ashbury as a ‘Summer Car’ for the NWNGR. When transferred to the FR it was cut-down to suit the more restrictive loading gauge. It has carried many different numbers in its life and in later years gained full height doors. Most recently it has been sporting the 1920s Green Livery and was a regular component of one of the WHR sets, until the advent of Covid saw it incorporated into the otherwise Green and Cream Liveried ‘1960s’ set. A set, which incidentally can now be modelled in full using Resurgam Rolling Stock kits with, Carriages 11, 12, 17, 21 and 38 also being available.

The kit is designed with our proven hidden slot and tab construction technique throughout for easy and accurate assembly and will be available in MDF or Plywood. It includes individually glazed panels with droplight frames / and or window beading in full relief. Interior panel detail and bench seating is supplied in full.

As of April 2025 these kits are available for 32mm using the prototypical pattern bogies, or 45mm gauge using the ’45mm Gauge Optimised Bogies’, with either allowing operation down to a 2ft 6in radius, but cutting a substantial chord in the process. Insulated wheels are also available if required. Please specify when ordering.

As standard the kit will include, 3D printed representations of the Door Handles and Grab handles along with ‘SLR Models’ 3D printed ‘Door Buffers’ and ‘Door Lock Covers’, all of which are manufactured here in the UK. Despite their fine appearance these are surprisingly strong components, especially once mounted in position and will easily stand respectful handling.

Couplings and decals are not supplied with the kit, but the correct decals for Carriage 23 in its current condition are available from Endon Valley Custom Decals.
