These vehicles were originaly built for the Ffestiniog Railway, as '3-Ton' Slate Waggons, but starting in 1919 were re-built with raised sides and ends and an 'end discharge door' in order to carry granite from 'Brookes Quarry'. In the earlier preservation era they were a mainstay of the Permanant Way department, who made extensive use of them as 'ballast waggons'.
Available either with or without the 'dummy brake gear', these cut kits are laser cut from MDF or Plywood and feature proven hidden slot and tab construction and feature both internal and external engraved detail. They come complete with Binnie Engineering wheels, axles and coupling hooks, HGLW oil filled bronze bearings. Those kits marked as 'Braked' are supplied with Dummy / Non Working representations of the Brake Gear'. The kits are supplied with couplings designed as part of the kit’s construction, and parts are supplied to provide both a definitive scale outline for ‘hooks under the buffers’ or an option to couple over the top in the more usual 16mm scale fashion.
To best represent the prototype, the component for the 'side extensions' are always supplied in 'Plywood'.
