NWNGR ‘Ashbury Summer Car’

Produced in collaboration with William Curry, this laser cut kit represents the Ashbury ‘Summer Cars’ as they were originally built for the NWNGR in 1894. A total of four were built and numbered 11 to 14 in the the NWNGR system.  Carriages 11 and 12 were ‘semi-glazed’ with glazing in the intermediate windows, whilst Carriages 13 and 14 were completely open, with just two horizontal bars across the intermediate apertures.

The kit is designed with well proven hidden slot and tab construction techniques throughout for easy and accurate assembly and will be available in MDF or Plywood. It includes individually glazed panels with window beading in full relief. Interior panel detail and bench seating is supplied in full.

As of April 2025 these kits are available for 32mm using the prototypical pattern bogies, or 45mm gauge using the ’45mm Gauge Optimised Bogies’, with either allowing operation down to a 2ft 6in radius, but cutting a substantial chord in the process. Insulated wheels are also available if required. Please specify when ordering.

As standard the kit will include, 3D printed representations of the Door Handles and Grab handles along with SLR Models ‘Door Lock Covers’, all of which are manufactured here in the UK. Despite their fine appearance these are surprisingly strong components, especially once mounted in position and will easily stand respectful handling.

Couplings and decals are not supplied with the kit, but the correct NWNGR decals are available from Endon Valley Custom Decals.
